How did you get started in photography?

Just like many people, I started in photography with the intention of taking pictures of my daughter. It actually turned out that the camera came into my life at the exact time I needed it. I was going through some infertility problems and it was a very difficult time in my life. The camera allowed me the opportunity to see beauty in the world in a time I doubted it. I actually recently blogged my whole story. It still amazes me to this day what an incredible healing tool the camera is, often for people on both sides of it.

How has shooting boudoir impacted you on a personal level?

Shooting boudoir has helped me grow as a person and a woman. I have discovered so much about myself through this process. The belief is that clients come to me to heal their wounds or celebrate life victories, but I found the truth is that they aren’t the only ones being healed and celebrating. My clients allow me to share their journey which gives me the gift to reflect on my own life.

Tell us more of the backstory behind #ShamelesslyFeminine.

#ShamelesslyFeminine is about celebrating your unique femininity, shamelessly. That is my goal for myself, my daughter, and all the women of the world. I want women to know it’s okay to break the molds and be a woman the way YOU see fit for yourself (and not judge others for their individual expression).

How do you balance your work and your personal life as a photographer?

Umm…I don’t! I really don’t think there is such thing as balance. I think in any moment whatever needs my attention gets it. That said, there are some times that are easier than others. I keep to a schedule of shooting 4-5 clients a month. I travel 1-2 times a month and my shooting ends at 2 p.m. everyday so I can be home for the bus. I have a lot of 5 a.m. wake up calls to get work done before my kids are up. I would rather do that than work late at night.

Do you have any advice for photographers interested in starting to shoot boudoir?

With boudoir comes a big responsibility. You have a chance to make or break a woman and her confidence. Make sure you practice, study posing, and learn how to communicate with women.
