Design Inspiration

Featured Photographer: Edward Ross

September 19, 2012

This week, we’re happy to reveal Calgary wedding and portrait photographer Edward Ross as our featured inspiration. He’s a people person and building relationships with his clients is key for him. With a background in photojournalism and a love for art and culture, his images are proof of that–beautiful fashion portraits set against some epic settings such as a mountain range, vintage car or desert rocks.

Edward is spot on with his advice below about making your brand unique so it stands out from the rest. We couldn’t agree more!

Click here to visit his site and check out more of his work. Thanks again for sharing Edward and we hope these images and words below inspire you.

How did you get started in Photography?

I majored in photojournalism and decided to pursue lifestyle portraits and art. Some of my first photography jobs included managing Sears Portrait Studios and a private wedding and portrait photography studio where I learned a lot more about the industry and sales.

What has contributed to your success?

Persistence. Failure was not an option! I have always been competitive and once I was bitten by the photography bug, I was determined to push myself to always grow and achieve the next level. I learned that there was so much talent out there, and I decided to use those photographers I admired for inspiration rather than be intimidated by them. I am always looking to continue learning–realizing that it will truly be a life-long endeavor.

What is the most important thing for your continued success?

Staying current and being excited about new challenges. With so many new photographers out there I feel it is more important than ever to distinguish your brand through consistency, style and philosophy. No one can be a better version of you, so find out what it is that makes you unique and grow on that premise!

What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?

Simple: Always look forward.

What is most important in your photography?

Relationships. Everything I do whether it is weddings, fashion or commercial work is based firstly on establishing relationships with my clients. If I believe in the work and the client believes in me, it is a win-win.
