Featured Work: Jeff Mason

Jeff Mason is all about storytelling through photography and these top shots are good examples of that. When he was younger, he had a fascination with old photos and wondered about the people in them. Later in life, that eventually lead to a career in photography with Jeff creating his own narratives through pictures. He describes his style as having an artistic perspective that captures his subjects’ personalities, and he has a great mix of taking classic portraits combined with spur-of-the-moment expressions.

Let’s take a look at some of Jeff’s work… [break]

This shot grabs your attention and the lines created here draw your eye down with the shape of the bride’s dress. She is framed within the balcony and those lines work to create a nice contrast of horizontal and vertical. The black spirals in the railing pop against the white background and contrast well with the antique, white dress.

This image is so striking because you totally want to be there! What a sunset. But the play with light and color in this image is beautiful. I like the pink sun, aqua sea and the way the white light shines around this couple like a spotlight.

This shot is simple and sweet. The narrative is all about this couple’s casual beach wedding. Plus, it has this vintage, old-time feel to it.

In this shot, Jeff has captured a great moment. The hand holding really draws me in and tells a great story of the many emotions of all involved. And, they all look like amazing characters to boot. Jeff is great at capturing the personalities of his subjects.

What a romantic and colorful shot. This image is a mix between a classic portrait of a couple on their wedding day, but you don’t feel like it’s posed. It’s a very natural shot, like Jeff was a bystander nearby snapping away.
